The program, the various streams available, the accommodation, the venues, the leaders, the opportunities are all genuinely world-class. Sydney inSpires is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all involved in church music in the Souther Hemisphere.
Choir members, band members, leaders, clergy, organists, students, conductors and teachers – whether expert or beginner, amateur or professional – Sydney inSpires is for you! A multi-streamed approach throughout the week centred around the University of Sydney and St Andrew’s Cathedral School will culminate in two exciting events in the City’s premiere venue – Sydney Town Hall.
All participants will sing and play in the ‘Prom Praise’ concert with the Gospel Orchestra of Sydney and Festival Choir, conducted by Professor Noel Tredinnick CBE, with Paris’ Thomas Ospital on the famous Sydney Town Hall Grand Organ. All participants also sing in the performance of Bach’s immortal ‘St Matthew Passion’ – commonly regarded as the greatest piece of Sacred Music ever composed. Professional Soloists and orchestra will be selected from the finest players of the Sydney Orchestras, the National Youth Choir of Australia will be singing the inner choruses and the work will be conducted by Dr David Hill, director of London’s Bach Choir and Yale’s Sacred Schola Cantorum.
Throughout the week lecture-demonstrations, services, seminars, recitals, flash choirs, workshops, and concerts will be held at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney Town Hall, St James King St, St Mary’s Cathedral, St Andrew’s Cathedral School and Sydney University.
Come and sing carols with John Rutter, take conducting masterclasses with the world’s finest teachers, learn the organ from scratch, or take it to diploma level.
A separate Children’s Choir, maximum of 38 places for under 14s, will be run by acknowledged experts from Australia and overseas.
