John Rutter, internationally-acclaimed carols composer and conductor, presents A Festival of Lessons and Carols, featuring the National Youth Choir of Australia and the RSCM Festival Choir.
A Festival of Lessons and Carols is the Christmas Eve service held in King’s College Chapel. The Festival was introduced in 1918 to bring a more imaginative approach to worship, and celebrated its 100th year in 2018, with Dr Cleobury and the choir featuring on the Queen’s Christmas address. It was first broadcast in 1928 and is now broadcast to millions of people around the world.
Rutter is known in the music community as ‘Mr Carols’, having written an enormous amount of Christmas carols over more than forty years. He has also edited multiple editions of the authoritative source for Christmas music across British churches, Carols for Choirs, with Sir David Willcocks, the famed Director of Music of King’s College Cambridge.
